Sept. 17, 2010 - PRLog -- Chef proprietor Dan Bland and his partner Katie Feetham bought the Wheatsheaf three years ago and have worked hard to create a traditional village pub with a welcoming atmosphere. It is their passion for serving freshly cooked food sourced from local suppliers, which has earned them a place in this year’s Michelin Guide.

“The inspections are completely anonymous so you only find out if you have been visited once they have decided to include you,” said Dan. “They select places to visit once they have received several recommendations from customers.”

The Wheatsheaf is one of just 70 pubs countrywide to be newly featured in the guide.

“It is a great achievement for us – especially so soon after buying the Wheatsheaf,” said Katie. “The accolade is down to the team effort of our staff, local suppliers and, of course, the customers who have supported us since we first opened our doors.”

Michelin guide editor Derek Bulmer said: “Our guide shows that pubs are not dying, they are merely changing. Pubs making efforts with their food are flourishing. We are also finding that these food-driven pubs are playing an even greater part in the local community. Chefs are rediscovering regional specialties and often deal directly with local farmers.”

The Wheatsheaf is quickly becoming well known for its Sunday lunches, which feature roast beef reared, by farmer Vic Kerr and his family within two miles of the pub.

Dan said: “The beef, pork, lamb and poultry we have available locally is unbeatable. By working closely with the suppliers on our doorstep I can control every aspect of the food we serve.

“I was over the moon to hear we had been included in this year’s guide. It is another feather in our cap as we’re already highly recommended in the Good Pub Guide.

“I think visitors appreciate the warm welcome they receive from Katie and her front-of-house team and the delicious regional ingredients that I’m able to use to create their meals.”

Each entry in the Michelin guide features an in-depth description and colour photograph, with information on typical dishes and specialties, real ales served and interesting wine lists.  Also included are details of accommodation where available, opening times and prices, directions and driving distances from local towns.
