Sept. 16, 2010 - PRLog -- Detroit, MI – Robert Shumake, Detroit businessman and philanthropist, has a vision of founding a green charter school to teach students to be entrepreneurs in green technologies.  Robert Shumake envisions a school with flat screen TVs broadcasting Bloomberg News in the hallways, a Wall Street Journal in every classroom and a laptop on every desk.  The Robert Shumake Academy will partner with major corporations so students can serve internships with CEOs to earn college credits.  “The curriculum will not be easy,” said Shumake.  “We must break away from the antiquated school calendar based on yesterday’s agricultural rhythms to longer days and summer classes that will better prepare students to compete in the global economy.”

Robert Shumake says “Our Motto is ‘We train CEOs.’ With all the billions of dollars in green business out there, imagine kids learning how to start businesses focused on solar and wind energy and socially conscious living.  If kids are not learning about technology, green business and the significance of entrepreneurship, we’ll fall behind.”

Robert Shumake has secured a $500,000 grant from the Michigan Department of Education to write the curriculum for his charter school, which will be modeled on the award-winning Kipp Academy in Houston, Texas.  Robert Shumake plans to lease a 500,000-square-foot building in Detroit where the academy will begin as a middle school and expand to include a high school.

To make his dream come true, Robert Shumake needs a charter from the state.  Though not easy to come by, after a year of waiting, Robert Shumake’s application is among six being considered through Lake Superior State University.

Robert Shumake hopes that public demand for his unique entrepreneur-focused concept will sway LSSU to award him the charter.  The school’s mission is in keeping with Robert Shumake’s life’s work to make education accessible to minority youth as a path to financial success.

Robert Shumake is CEO of Southfield, Mich.-based Inheritance Capital Group, Inc. He founded the Robert S. Shumake Scholarship Relays, now in their sixth year, and the Robert S. Shumake HBCU Cross Country Challenge, now in its second year, to raise money for college scholarships for academically and athletically talented youth.
