Sept. 16, 2010 - PRLog -- While all have been chosen primarily for their flavour and ability to crop well in British conditions, some will also appeal to keen exhibitors who like to make their presence felt at horticultural shows.

Runner Bean Equator is well named as tolerates hot summers  The white flowers will set their beans even in hot, dry spells, making this such a reliable variety.  The long, straight, succulent pods are borne in clusters, while the plants show marked resistance to disease, making this a good choice for those who garden organically or prefer not to use chemicals.  Equator also has potential as an exhibition variety, it is claimed.

Leek Megaton F1 is an early new hybrid which stands in excellent condition for several weeks with no risk of ‘bolting’.  Dark green leaves, a good length of white shank  and a fine flavour make Megaton F1 one of the best ‘earlies’.  It may also have a bright future as a ‘show’ variety, the company believes.

Sweet Corn Britpop F1 is a worthwhile novelty which gives UK gardeners the chance to grow their own corn for ‘popping’.  At the end of the growing season the cobs are dried until the kernels fall or can be rubbed off.  They can then be stored in an airtight container until required for making into delicious popcorn.  It is a great vegetable to grow with children.

Courgette Best of British F1 has an open habit to make the most of any sunshine and helps to prevent disease.  The spine-free plants produce plenty of dark green, top-class, tasty fruits, which are easy to pick.  Lettuce Cuore is a romaine or large cos type with upright, tightly closed heads.  There is little wastage and preparation is easy.  Crisp, succulent and very tasty, Cuore has full downy mildew resistance.
