Aussies still love their TV, even in the age of iPhone & digital downloads

It took just one weekend for iPhone users to make OzTV, a TV guide app, top of the lifestyle charts and one of the best sellers in the Australian App Store.

Sept. 15, 2010 - PRLog -- Upon its August 26th launch, OzTV quickly overtook the multitude of lifestyle-related apps, including releases by Celebrity Chef Jamie Oliver and the controversial adult rated apps, showing, above all else, Aussies still love their free-to-air TV.

It might come as a surprise to some that the tech-savvy Australian iPhone user, in this age of online TV and digital downloads, is continuing to tune in to free-to-air TV. It's a trend that started towards the end of 2009 with a surge in viewing as new Freeview channels were introduced such as ABC2/3, GO, Seven2, OneHD & SBS2. Other factors such as increased local content and the fast tracking of overseas shows have no doubt also played their part.

OzTV allows iPhone users to quickly flick through what's on TV now and later, finally ending annoying channel surfing and alleviating the fear of missing out. Users can also quickly gain access to more information from Wikipedia, suggest shows to friends, and even set reminders to ensure they never miss a favourite show again.

Created by Apps Perhaps, a design and developer duo from Melbourne, the app uses TV Guide content provided by Sydney based eBroadcast.

"eBroadcast was one of the very first online publishers in Australia, pioneering the distribution of online content under the Sofcom brand. In 2010, we have continued to provide quality and accurate television and cinema session data to major Australian companies and international mobile manufacturers." says Glen Murphy, founder of eBroadcast Australia.

"eBroadcast are proud to partner with Apps Perhaps, to bring to market stunning products such as OzTV for thousands of iPhone users to enjoy."

"We can't believe the OzTV app is number 1 in the iPhone charts already, after only 24 hours. That's just amazing."

OzTV has since gone on to become one of the most popular non-game apps and featured by Apple as "New & Noteworthy".

"If you're Australian and you watch TV, you need this app on your iPhone. The high res graphics look beautiful on the iPhone 4 and the program view is a refreshing change from the boring old table or list view in other apps. Coupled with high quality program info, this is a must have for all couch potatoes in Australia." - Anthony Agius, MacTalk Co-Founder and Editor.

And theres plenty more to come,

"This is just a starting point, we've had great feedback from users and have some really exciting plans that will hopefully give people everything they are looking for, and maybe a few surprises too!" - Alex Johnston, Apps Perhaps.

OzTV is currently available in the App Store at a special launch price of $2.49.
