Robert Shumake Sponsors Second Annual Cross Country Event for HBCU

Sept. 15, 2010 - PRLog -- Detroit, MI – Robert Shumake has a passion for sports programs and education to prepare today’s youth to be tomorrow’s leaders.  Born and raised in Detroit, Robert Shumake, entrepreneur and philanthropist, credits his success to track and field events that he participated in while attending high school in Detroit.

The first Robert Shumake HBCU Challenge was a great success with 17 teams participating in 2009.  Robert Shumake is especially pleased with the response the event is getting this year, with over 25 teams already registered.

Robert Shumake will continue his partnership with the National Scholastic Sports Foundation (NSSF) as he sponsors a 5K and 8K foot race at the Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary, N.C., taking place on Oct. 1-2, 2010.  Registration is now open and eligible teams can sign up at www.headcountreg.com/meet/146.  The entry fees is $125 per team.

Robert S. Shumake, CEO of Inheritance Capital Group and founder of the Robert S. Shumake Scholarship Relays and the Robert Shumake HBCU Challenge, ran track while attending high school in Detroit.  He credits the training for track and field events with his success.  “I learned that the principals of track and field can be applied to building a successful career,” said Shumake.  “Don’t look left.  Don’t look right.  Just look straight ahead and run your own race because when you get to the starting line nothing matters except your own performance.”
