Sept. 14, 2010 - PRLog -- MINNEAPOLIS (September 14, 2010) — McGladrey, the brand under which RSM McGladrey, Inc. and McGladrey & Pullen, LLP operate, was recently selected by the Working Mother 100 Best Companies initiative as one of the nation’s top 100 companies for family-friendly benefits, while its Work/Life flexibility options were also selected as “Best in Class.” This is the fourth time McGladrey has been named on the list, and the second time its WorkLife options received the Best in Class designation.

“McGladrey is committed to understanding our people and providing opportunities and coaching to help them succeed,” said RSM McGladrey President and COO C.E. Andrews. “This is evident in our business-based approach to flexibility, which enables our people to deliver exceptional client service and achieve personal and professional success. With flexibility, everyone wins – our clients, our firm and our people.”
McGladrey’s family-friendly benefits — adoption, paternity, wellness, Coach-on-Call, informal and formal flexibility and other benefits — have earned the firm numerous accolades, including recognition in the Families & Work Institute’s 2009 Guide to Bold New Ideas for Making Work Work; receipt of the Alliance for Work-Life Progress’s distinguished Work-Life Innovative Excellence Award;  and inclusion on the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption’s 100 Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces list. McGladrey also made Flex-Friendly’s inaugural list of Certified Flex-Friendly Companies – one of only 24 companies across the nation to be included.

According to Working Mother, with 70 percent of mothers working, and women outnumbering men in the workplace for the first time in U.S. history, companies such as McGladrey have been instrumental in supporting the advancement of working parents.

“Twenty-five years ago, we launched our Best Companies initiative to challenge businesses to address the unique needs of working mothers,” said Carol Evans, president, Working Mother Media. “The influx of women into the workforce demanded changes in workplace culture as companies strove to keep working moms’ talent and loyalty. Today, we celebrate our winners’ untiring commitment to their employees through an impressive array of programs.”

“McGladrey’s WorkLife strategies help position our employees to be successful both personally and professionally,” said Teresa Hopke, senior director of talent management for RSM McGladrey. “We strive to understand our employees’ aspirations and challenges, and provide opportunities, such as flexibility and a coach-on-call program, to help them succeed. In fact, a culture of WorkLife flexibility is so important to us that we even go so far as to embed WorkLife goal setting into our annual performance review process.”
Profiles of the 100 Best Companies, as well as national comparisons, are in the October issue of Working Mother and at workingmother.com/bestcompanies.

Methodology:
Companies were selected for the 2010 Working Mother 100 Best Companies based on an extensive application with more than 600 questions on workforce, compensation, child care, flexibility programs, leave policies and more.  It also surveys the usage, availability and tracking of programs, as well as the accountability of managers who oversee them.  Seven areas were measured and scored: workforce profile, benefits, women’s issues and advancement, child care, flexible work, parental leave and company culture.  For this year’s 100 Best, particular weight was given to benefits, flexibility and parental leave.

The 2011 online application will be available in mid-December and due by early March 2011.  All companies that apply, including those that don’t make the 100 Best list, receive feedback showing how they compare with all other applicants.
