The Shopper's Tote™ & Wings of Hope The Justin Samela Miceli Foundation Race for the Cure in NYC!

Sept. 12, 2010 - PRLog -- On Sunday September 12, 2010, The Shopper's Tote™ & Wings of Hope The Justin Samela Miceli Foundation teamed up to help run breast cancer out of town. The 20th Anniversary of the Greater New York City Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure® event was held at 9am in Central Park. Ambassador Nancy G. Brinker, founder and CEO of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, the world’s largest breast cancer organization and creator of the Race for the Cure® series, was Race Grand Marshal for this very special 20th Annual Komen New York City Race for the Cure®. The event is the premier fundraiser for the Greater New York City Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. This year the set fundraising goal was estimated at more than $6 million to be used in its fight to ensure access to breast health services for uninsured and underinsured New Yorkers.

Among the 25,000 participants that included Team The Shopper's Tote™ & Wings of Hope The Justin Samela Miceli Foundation, were an estimated 1,600 breast cancer survivors, as well as celebrities Dr. Mehmet Oz, Gabrielle Union (Komen Ambassador and Circle of Promise spokesperson), Stephen Colbert, Judge Judy Sheindlin,  Jill Eikenberry, Michael Tucker and Grammy Award winning singer Cyndi Lauper.

“This year marks the 15th year that I've participated in The Greater New York City Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. I race for hope...hope that one day we will have a cure for all breast cancers. My family has been repeatedly affected by breast cancer, as have the families of many of my friends and colleagues . Ultimately, everyone knows someone affected by cancer and it's nice to see so much support here today. Individual race participants as well as teams, including The Shopper's Tote™ & Wings of Hope The Justin Samela Miceli Foundation, were all determined to help run breast cancer out of town. They walked or ran the 5K (3.1 mile) course through Central Park starting at the American Museum of Natural History and ending at the Bandshell.

During the month of October, The Shopper's Tote™  will continue their fundraising efforts for The Greater New York City Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure by auctioning Shopper's Totes™  autographed by celebrities like Erik Roberts, Shirley Jones, Kevin Eubanks and more, in the hopes of raising additional funds for the cause.
