Sept. 9, 2010 - PRLog -- With Big Brother coming to an end with the 'Ultimate' series and the success of this year’s X Factor so far, the UK’s leading daily city deals website polled 1,184 people across the UK to ask which reality TV shows they believe to have been ‘the best ever.’

The research, by www.Groupola.com, found that 23% of those polled believed that Big Brother was ‘the best’ reality TV show of all time. In second place, with 17% of the total vote, was the musical talent show Pop Stars, closely followed by The X Factor with 12% agreeing.

When asked ‘which of the below TV reality shows would you label the best of all time?’ the top 10 most popular answers were:

1.       Big Brother – 23%
2.       Popstars – 17%
3.       The X Factor – 12%
4.       Britain’s got Talent – 11%
5.       I’m a Celebrity, get me out of here – 8%
6.       Pop Idol – 7%
7.       Shipwrecked – 6%
8.       Fame Academy – 4%
9.       The Hills – 3%
10.   Celebrity Big Brother – 2%

When asked the multiple choice question ‘why do you think this is the best reality TV show of all time?’ 1 in 3, 32%, of those who voted Big Brother as ‘the best’ agreed it deserved the title because it is the ‘most realistic;’ while 18% said it was because it has made ‘TV history’.

44% of the respondents believe that Big Brother could be bought by another television channel. Over two thirds, 68%, cited that they ‘hope’ Big Brother will be commissioned by another channel and a further 9% admitted that they will ‘cry’ once the series ends.

Musical talent show Popstars was the first of its kind in 2001 with the winning band, Hear’Say taking the crown. Of the 17% that believed the show was ‘the best’ reality show, the majority, 51% say it is because it was ‘unique at the time’, while 14% agree it should top the poll for ‘comical value’.

Chairman of Groupola.com, Mark Pearson, commented on the results;

“I was shocked to see that Popstars trumped The X Factor, although it was the first real musical talent show and I think many believe that the other shows that we have now stemmed from that."

He continued,

“It is sad that Big Brother is coming to end, although I was shocked to see some admitted they'd actually cry when it finally finishes. TV reality shows can be a great opportunity for a social gathering, with X Factor parties and the like on the rise."
