Mitsubishi’s Triton And Pajero Score Top Marks In Overlander Magazine’s Best Of The Best Awards

Recognition for two of Mitsubishi's top performing vehicles - a ute, the Triton, and a four wheel drive diesel wagon, the Pajero.

Sept. 8, 2010 - PRLog -- Overlander Magazine’s acclaimed annual four-wheel drive awards have seen Mitsubishi top the class in two separate categories, with the Triton achieving the back-to-back award for Best Diesel Ute, and the legendary Pajero wagon named Best Medium Diesel Wagon and Best Value for Money.

Overlander Magazine’s Best of the Best awards rate all four-wheel drives currently on the market, not just those that are new or significantly revised during the year.

Mitsubishi’s much awarded Pajero Di-D has not only held the category of Best Value for Money for five consecutive years, but has stolen the crown from Toyota’s Prado for Best Medium Diesel Wagon. With its revised engine, new gearbox, noise reduction technology and added appointments for a more luxurious look and feel, the new Pajero is a clear front-runner for its category.

“The Pajero offers stronger performance, sharper on-road handling and more kit for less money,” said Fraser Stronach, road test editor for Overlander Magazine.

Mitsubishi’s Triton Di-D Double Cab has achieved a back-to-back achievement of Best Diesel Ute and can attribute its win to its new high powered 2.5-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel.

This new engine is more refined and generates more power than the previous one (131kW) and more torque (400Nm) when hooked up to the five-speed manual; and 350Nm when mated to either the four- or five-speed automatics that are optional.

“The other major change from ML to NM, and one that’s even more significant, is the adoption of electronic stability and traction control. In difficult off-road situations where traction is at a premium, especially when there’s a tendency for the vehicle in question to ‘lift’ its wheels, a ute with traction control will often ‘get through’ where one without won’t,” said Stronach.

Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited (MMAL) Vice President of Brand and Marketing, Paul Unerkov, was pleased to see the Triton and Pajero gain recognition in these awards.

“To be named in Overlander Magazine’s prestigious annual awards gives Mitsubishi a great sense of pride. Against every four-wheel drive on the market, the Triton achieved the back-to-back award due to its power and electronic stability and traction control and the Pajero due to its fuel-efficiency and high level of specifications,” said Unerkov.

The stronger, safer and more manoeuvrable Triton range is available with a choice of three engines, in both a single or double cab, and the legendary Pajero with more power, efficiency and style, and both are available from over 200 Mitsubishi dealerships nationwide.
