Sept. 8, 2010 - PRLog -- SAN RAFAEL, Calif. (September 8, 2010) – Meals of Marin (www.mealsofmarin.net), the food source for people with life-threatening illnesses throughout Marin County, will be hosting A Tuscan Renaissance Faire, its first fund-raising gala on October 9, 2010. The event will be held from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Villa Santa in Ross, an 18-acre estate and residence of Don Santa, owner of Woodlands Market. Proceeds from the Faire will go to support Meals of Marin’s ongoing work of preparing and delivering meals throughout Marin to 160 housebound clients battling cancer, AIDS, and other life-threatening illnesses.

A Tuscan Renaissance Faire commemorates delivery of the one millionth meal in Meals of Marin’s 17-year history, and hopes to raise the more than $150,000 immediately needed to sustain Meals of Marin’s core meal delivery program. The Renaissance-themed event will offer a tasteful, sophisticated afternoon that includes soothsayers, jugglers, an herbalist, and courtesan dancers in period costume, as well as a Renaissance Marketplace with period tents. The Faire also will feature both a live and silent auction with unusual prize such as chef-catered dinners, fine wines, getaway trips, and autographed music memorabilia.

“The Meals of Marin board unanimously chose the theme of a Tuscan Renaissance Faire for our first fund-raising event, since many of us still miss the old Marin Renaissance Fair,” said Carola Detrick, Executive Director of Meals of Marin. “We thought the theme particularly appropriate since the Italian Renaissance dishes and great organic foods served by Stacy Scott will remind revelers that their participation assures that other Marin residents suffering from life-threatening ailments need not go hungry.”

Jimmy Dillon will be the Artistic Host and he and his and friends serving as Court Minstrels. The event also will include food catered by Stacy Scott, including traditional Renaissance fare updated for the 21st century palate. Musician Leslie Harlib will perform as the Court’s Story Teller and Singer; Artist and Illustrator Rich Sigberman will serve as the Court’s “Ricardo Da Vinci”; and Karen Schneider as Court Photographer.

Tickets to attend are $200 each. Meals of Marin also is actively seeking sponsors for its Tuscan Renaissance Faire. Sponsors will receive free passes to the event, as well as acknowledgement in Meals of Marin promotional literature. Many sponsors participate as a means of acknowledging loved ones.
