Medical Weight Loss Clinic (MWLC, www.mwlc.com)
Beginning Monday, Sept. 20, MWLC is making this program available for eight weeks to the first 25 youths aged 10-17 who qualify at each of its 34 locations throughout Michigan and across northern Ohio—a total of 850 youths who can benefit from this offer. Qualifications will be based on an age-appropriate minimum body mass index (BMI) as determined by MWLC guidelines.
“We all know the dangers of childhood obesity,” said Alberta Lipiniski, nursing supervisor of Medical Weight Loss Clinic. “Nearly every day, the media is reporting on the dangers of this condition and how it has become an official ‘epidemic.’
Individuals interested in taking advantage of this free offer can contact MWLC at 800-GET-SLIM to schedule an appointment at a clinic in their area and begin a personalized weight loss program. If demand should exceed available clinic resources for the day, individuals will be offered an appointment at an alternate clinic nearby until all spots are filled.
Participants who successfully complete the eight-week program will receive two tickets to a Detroit Pistons game. They also will be entered for an opportunity to win a free makeover valued at $500 for new clothing and a new hairstyle. Robard Corporation and Promedis Corporation will be providing samples of nutrient supplements at no charge.

To show her support in helping fight childhood obesity, and at the request of Medical Weight Loss Clinic, Michigan Governor Jennifer M. Granholm has officially declared the week of Sept. 20 as “Childhood Obesity Awareness Week” in the state. Shaping Things to Come
Much like its adult plans, the MWLC Pro-Teen Plan is aimed at safe weight loss using an effective, medically supervised approach.
“Kids and teens know that being overweight is not healthy, and a majority of them know they are not happy because of it,” added Lipinski. “Our goal is to help these youths regain their self-confidence while teaching them how to make healthier food choices, the importance of portion control and the value of exercise.”
Supervised by board-certified physicians, Medical Weight Loss Clinic programs use regular grocery store food and are customized based upon a patient’s medical profile. Each patient receives one-on-one support from MWLC professionals with the focus of the weight loss program to help patients develop healthy and satisfying eating habits. This year alone, Medical Weight Loss Clinic patients will lose in excess of two million pounds.
