Social Network and Positive News Site Launches

Sept. 8, 2010 - PRLog -- For those interested in something beyond the “social” in social networking and the negativity in online news content, newly launched YourOliveBranch.org (yobo) offers a fresh take on both.  Located at http://yourolivebranch.org, the international website features both a social network and positive news portal focused on the intersection of peace and sustainability.  With a constant stream of positive news stories, the main source of which is the social network's membership, Your Olive Branch allows individuals and organizations to share their accomplishments and connect with one another to grow individual efforts into substantial group action.

Originally conceived as a tool for supporting non-violence, Your Olive Branch quickly grew into a more comprehensive resource for connecting the pre-existing but largely separate communities of peace and sustainability.  “There are already online resources for supporting peace and supporting sustainability individually, but they don't necessarily intersect,” says Tom Willits, Executive Director of Your Olive Branch.  “What we haven't seen yet on a large scale is the inherent connection between those two communities.  At yobo, we're using positive stories from real people on the ground around the world to show that when you do something as simple as recycling, you're also building peace.  It really is that simple.”

Featuring stories from both members and external sources, the positive news at yobo covers topics such as education, business, health, technology, and the arts, in addition to the banner issues of peace and sustainability.    Along with writing and sharing news content, members can also hold conversations within the site's forums, upload video and music, and network with other individuals and organizations to share their ideas and support.  “Whether it's a young social entrepreneur looking for funding or an established organization seeking to align itself with other players in its field, for all those interested in extending peace and sustainability, there's a reason to be a part of the yobo community,” says Willits.
