Watching TV Is UK’s Number One Leisure Activity but Sport, Arts and Crafts Are Not Far Behind

A new report shows Britons still regard watching TV as their main leisure activity, but with companies like Into the Blue offering ever more exciting activities to try, are we slowly dragging ourselves away from the TV?

Sept. 8, 2010 - PRLog -- “Why don’t you switch off the television and do something less boring instead” went the song over the opening credits for, ironically, a classic TV show all about leisure activities called ‘Why Don’t You’. A good question, as recently released statistics show as a nation, 84% of males and 85% of females count watching television as their number one activity out of work time.

However, the report, published by the European Statistics Office, shows 68% of women and 71% of men in the UK also take part in arts, crafts or sporting activities too.

Into the Blue is one of the country’s leading suppliers of ‘get up and go’ activity and experience days including arts and crafts type experiences and the company has seen a strong growth rate in the more adrenaline-based activities in recent years.

On their website clients can browse a heady mix of parachuting, paintballing, white water rafting and Western horse riding activities, all designed to get the heart pumping and those muscles working. Increasingly popular is the range of more arts and crafts activities, which sees recipients trying their hand at activities such as sushi making, flower arranging, glass blowing and even concocting their own perfumes.

Website editor for Into the Blue, Caroline Face commented: “There is definitely a keenness to learn something new or push yourself these days. This is why we’ve added activities such as base jumping simulators, polo playing and even ice sculpting workshops to our website, to meet that demand for those wanting to do something more exciting than watching TV in their hard-earned leisure time.”

The advantage of using an activity gift voucher company like http://www.intotheblue.co.uk/ for booking activities is that each activity is sold as a voucher valid for a full 12 months, so there is plenty of time to enjoy the chosen activity.

This voucher system also means the activities make excellent presents to give for whatever occasion and it’s true that whilst many people never think of switching off that TV and booking themselves into a new activity to try, when it’s offered as a gift the motivation to try something new is already there.
