Follow on Google News | Bucking the trend - customers queue to reserve a new home in CastorSTAMFORD Homes is flying in the face of any recession still affecting the housebuilding industry - as customers queued from the early hours to snap up a dream home in Castor near Peterborough.
By: Cetti Long The award-winning new homes builder organised a first come first served event for people who had expressed forward interest in the prestigious Drover’s Mead development, the first major housing project the village of Castor has seen for many years. In an unprecedented move for the new homes market locally, the first potential customers were queued from 6.00am to ensure they were able to pick their preferred home. A total of five reservations were notched up last Friday alone as a result. And the forward interest has been such that Stamford Homes have decided to bring forward the official launch of the development. Contracts were exchanged earlier this year for the 24-home scheme on Clay Lane in Castor, in what will be a two-year project for the village worth around £9 million. Drover’s Mead is a joint venture with the former land owners The Homes and Communities Agency, and will include a mixture of much-needed affordable housing, together with luxury four and five-bedroom private homes. In a first for Stamford Homes in the area, the individually- Eco-friendly additions will include rainwater butts, improved heat loss efficiency, compost bins and a garden shed bicycle storage to encourage a greener way of life. Stamford Homes have worked closely with the parish council and local planners to ensure that the sensitive needs of the area are taken into account. Stamford Homes regional sales and marketing director Peter Bond said: “With so much forward interest in the development we knew that demand would be high, and to achieve five reservations in a single morning – even before the official launch of the development with the show home opening – was outstanding. “Drover’s Mead is a stunning location in one of Peterborough’ The last two homes on the first release at Drover’s Mead are available to reserve now, with prices starting from £525,000.
