By: MSMF The Michael Scott Mater Foundation (MSMF) is in consideration for a $250,000 grant from the Pepsi Corporation for the month of September 2010 as part of the Pepsi Refresh Project campaign. To be awarded the grant, MSMF must garner enough votes via free online registration and text messaging. MSMF is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating opportunities for individuals and communities by providing financial resources, work-force training, cross cultural exchanges and sustainable solutions to real world challenges. MSMF's project is named YEAP. The Youth Empowerment Program (YEAP) is a four-week vocational training program that will teach Charlotte’s inner city youth about leadership, marketing, business development, IT/PC configuration, networking skill, customer service, and communications skills. Students will be mentored by professionals from the local community and upon completion of the program, graduates will be placed in paid internships and local employment where they will practice and enhance the skills they have acquired. The YEAP four-phased approach includes: * Information sessions * Classroom discussion and learning * Hands on training * Corporate challenge that will teach students to put their skills to work by competing in a business challenge for a chance for employment. YEAP is as much of a self-discovery process as it is professional development. YEAP is geared to better prepare the youth of Charlotte to enter the workforce and make a positive difference in society.
