Portable Ebook Reader Landscape Dominated by Release of Kindle 3

Kindle 3 is set to revolutionize the way we look at the portable ebook reader. Each enhancement is drastic and is a statement from Amazon that says "We're in this for the long haul!"

Sept. 6, 2010 - PRLog -- The mighty Amazon has done it once again, creating a portable ebook reader that makes you wonder how they did it. The screen size is the same as the previous generation while the over-all body is 21% smaller. 50% increase in screen-contrast and crisper, darker fonts makes it the sharpest screen in the industry.

Battery life is drastically increased and can be pushed to about one month now before needing a charge. A claim no one else can make. Memory size is doubled over the last generation which means a book capacity of about 3500 (more books than you will probably read in your life).

Other features are a text-to-speech which means this portable ebook reader will read to you. Isn't that neat. An enhanced proprietary Waveform and font technology increases the speed of page turns and font clarity.

Many improvements have left the competition wondering what happened. Pre-release copies were sent to a good handful of industry insiders. Here's what they had to say:

"New Kindle leaves rivals farther back." - New York Times"

"Amazon's newest Kindle is the best ebook-reading device on the market. It's better than the Apple iPad, the Barnes & Noble Nook, the various Sony readers…" - Fast Company

"Battery life is long enough for space shuttle missions." - Wired

"Kindle's winning combination of noteworthy upgrades—an improved screen, better battery life, lighter weight, and lower price—vaults it to the top of the e-book reader category." - CNet

"What's clear, however, is that if you're looking for a standalone e-reader (i.e., a portable replacement for physical books), this is the go-to, standard-setting device." - Engadget"

"Its solid build quality, along with its improved design, integrated store, and cross-platform transportability… all add up to a winner that shoots to the head of the pack." - PC World

"Simply put, it's the best dedicated ebook reader you can buy… Amazon has managed to increase the contrast on the Kindle in a way that sets it above the Nook, Sony Readers, or any other dedicated portable ebook reader we've tested." - PC Magazine

The only negative is the availability. At time of writing the Kindle is sold out. Not the end of the world, however. It simply means a 2 week waiting period if one orders today.

We're sure  happy to be a reviews company and not the competitor to the Kindle 3.
