PRLog (Press Release) - Sep. 6, 2010 - North Norfolk four-piece The Sharps launch their new EP at the Marquee, Rose Lane, Norwich, on Saturday 11 September.  The band’s bid for glory in the 2010 Live & Unsigned competition hit the wall after drummer Sam Evans was seriously injured, just before the semi final, in a mountain biking accident.  Now the boys are back writing songs, gigging and recording.

The EP, called Midnight State, features three new songs penned by bassist Callum Morgan.  The project was overseen by Ben Fenner, the Norfolk-born producer who spent time away from his London base to record The Sharps in a temporary studio set up in Felmingham over the summer.

Ben, who has worked with luminaries such as David Bowie and Brian Eno, has been following the Sharps’ progress for several years.  “They have a great sound, a great act and strong, original songs – plus all four of them are excellent performers who are passionate about their music,” he says.

The Marquee gig is being put on by Float Your Boat Promotions and features support from Lewi Moo, Attention To Detail and Slow Panic.  The Sharps will play a mix of old favourites and new material, including the three numbers on the EP: Midnight State, Pull Me Out and Is He A Fool?  Doors open at 7.30pm and tickets are £2, on the door.

For more information on the gig contact Float Your Boat Promotions on 07846 218233.

Editor's Notes:
The Sharps, described by the Norwich Playhouse as 'one of Norfolk's most exciting rock bands', and by KLFM radio as 'brilliant', are all 20 year olds who met at Aylsham High School.  Judges in the 2010 Live & Unsigned competition said they were ‘wowed’ by the band’s act and loved their ‘raw energy’.

They are: Darby Dorras, from Thurgarton, on guitar and vocals, drummer Sam Evans, from Felmingham, and twins Callum Morgan, bass and vocals, and Kieran Morgan, lead guitar and vocals, from Colby.  All four boys are currently at University.

The Sharps music is a combo of rock, Brit pop and prog, with a dash of funk, and they mix grunge guitar riffs with driving rhythms and close harmonies.  Their crowd-pleasing live act is full of energy and dynamism.
