Follow on Google News | Los Angeles Family Law Attorney Publishes Article on the Historical Change of the Role of AttorneysIn the article, Mark B. Baer, Esq. explains the cause and effect of the shift away from a lawyer's historical role in peacefully resolving disputes.
By: Mark B. Baer, Esq. During his research, Baer discovered a report from the Section of Litigation of the American Bar Association entitled, “Public Perceptions of Lawyers Consumer Research Findings" which found that "lawyers have a reputation for winning at all costs, and for being driven by profit and self-interest, rather than client interest." Lawyers "are believed to manipulate both the system and the truth…. Lawyers' tactics are said to border on the unethical, and even illegal. This idea does not just come from the media. Personal experiences bear it out." Baer also came upon a A UCLA study which found that only 21% of incoming law students believe that lawyers are honest and ethical. People who are disturbed by their opinion of attorneys have no interest in joining the profession. Moreover, some of those who believed otherwise tend to be a small percentage of the student body population of a law school from the outset, drop out of law school at a higher rate than their ruthless counterparts and tend to quickly leave the profession. According to Baer, most "old school attorneys who are healers of conflict have been trained in mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution." Mark B. Baer has practiced law in Los Angeles for nearly twenty years with an office in Pasadena, CA. For more information, please visit: http://www.markbaeresq.com.
