Staffordshire, UK. 4th September 2010. For a long time car owners have been slightly adjusting, their number plates so that the letters make initials or words and in some cases have slightly altered numbers so that they look like letters.
There are other car owners that have changed the font or style of lettering on the number to something more pleasing on the eye.
However, by doing this the car owner if breaking the law and could be facing a fine of up to a £1,000 should the police decide to pull the car with the strange looking number plate over. The reason why this is so serious is that automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras cannot read number plates that are not in the right format.
Carreg have a “Build Your Own” section http://www.carreg.co.uk/
According to the managing director of Carreg.co.uk, Jason Wilkes, "All number plates we supply from the "Build Your Own" section are "brand new" and have never previously been on a vehicle."
"We have over 38,000,000 DVLA registrations to choose from with most prefix letters still available. All personalised number plates purchased from here will be issued on a valid DVLA registrations certificate in around 4 days, OR you can keep the personalised plate purchased on the registration certificate provided for up to 12 months (longer periods can be arranged by special prior agreement)."
He added, "We have sold many thousands of personal number plates from this section, they make great gifts as prices start from only 199 pounds. Please note that you cannot make an older vehicle look newer (e.g. PA55 ONE cannot go onto a vehicle with X556 JUY). We do not offer any cooling off period here as the number plates are especially ordered for you. Our service begins as soon as you purchase your personalised number plate from us."
