Sept. 3, 2010 - PRLog -- Real Firefighters wear pink!  At least on September 18th they do.  That’s when the Guardians of the Ribbon Pink Heals Tour 2010 rolls into town with four very large, very pink fire trucks.  The pink trucks are decorated with over 40,000 signatures from women who have survived cancer and accompanied by fire fighters dressed in pink fire suits. The Guardians of the Ribbon national tour is part of the professional fire fighters’ united front in the fight against breast cancer.

Pink Heals
Guardians of the Ribbon was begun in Sept. 2007 by a group of fire fighters when one of their members lost his young wife to breast cancer.  Now, Guardians of the Ribbon travel the country asking fire fighters, police officers and local leaders in communities to join them in their quest to raise money and awareness.  Their slogan, “Cares Enough to Wear Pink” shows women that the men in their lives love and support them enough to wear pink. Perhaps the Pink Heals Tour most surprising attribute is that the organization itself makes no money. Instead of trying to raise and distribute funds to breast cancer victims on their own, the Pink Heals Tour’s goal is to inspire communities to raise their own funds. To date, the group has helped raise more than $206,000 in 1,000 cities in America in just 3 years of operation.

When St. Lucie County Firefighters heard about the tour passing through South Florida, they immediately knew this was something they needed to be involved with.  Committee Chair, and local firefighter, Donny Stefani, has been hard at work making sure this is one of the tour’s most successful stops.  “There isn’t a firefighter in the country whose life hasn’t been touched by breast cancer in some way, with a family member, friend or co-worker dealing with this devastating disease,” he stated.  “Most people think of firefighters as a strong group of heroes who would never wear pink.  We want everyone to know that not only will we wear pink, but we’ll wear it proudly. We hope this is an event that will help bring the community together to show their support, raise money and create awareness in our fight against breast cancer.”

The event begins in downtown Tradition at 2:30 p.m. with a parade of the pink fire trucks.  On hand will be the Fire Department’s Honor Guard, the Boys & Girls Club Drum Line, local students and cheerleaders, and of course, Dalmatians.  The local Dalmatian Rescue Society will lead more than a dozen Dalmatians, long considered the mascot of fire fighters everywhere, through the streets in their own special show of support.  Traxx Entertainment will Emcee, local band Day9 will perform and LJ Davis Production will host a car show at the event. Included in the evenings events will be food vendors, bounce houses for the kids and other booths.  Special pink shirts with the Pink Heals logo will be on sale during the event for only $10.

There will be a Celebration of Life for all breast cancer survivors and their families and all survivors will be given an opportunity to sign one of the pink fire trucks.

All proceeds of the event will benefit Pink Tie Friends, Inc., a local charitable organization whose mission is to provide financial support to individuals who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and who are uninsured or under-insured in St. Lucie, Martin and Indian River counties.  Started in 2005, Pink Tie Friends and its volunteers and supporters have raised funds through many events, including its annual Calendar, Pink Tie Gala, and Friendship Luncheon. Portions of the funds raised have helped nearly 100 women and men in our community overcome the financial burden of their treatment from diagnostic services through surgery, chemo-therapy, radiation and medication.
