Sept. 2, 2010 - PRLog -- Hollywood actress Regina Taylor, from the hit  syndicated TV Series The Unit, along with many invited guests, will attend the Gala Benefit for the Goose.  Sadly, Taylor lost her mother to this dreadful disease. She wanted to find a way to honor her mother’s memory and found that way by supporting the Ovarian Cancer Symptom Awareness Organization (OCSA).  Additionally, Taylor has written a play called The Trinity River Plays, which opens at the Goodman Theatre in 2011.  The Trinity River Plays are three one-act plays about relationships, one of which is based on her relationship with her mother while she was on her journey with ovarian cancer.

The event will raise funds for the Ovarian Cancer Symptom Awareness Organization (www.ovariancancersymptomawareness.org), a 501 (c) (3) founded by Chicagoans Rick and Susan Roman and their friend, Vallie Szymanski, after Susan was diagnosed with Stage III Ovarian Cancer in August of 2009.  The benefit will feature live entertainment, a live auction and raffle.

At the age of 52, Susan Roman (aka “Goose”), was diagnosed with Stage III Ovarian Cancer in August, 2009.  This was the same diagnosis her mother received in 1976.  After a radical hysterectomy (removal of uterus), oophorectomy (removal of ovaries) and omentectomy (removal of omentum) she entered into a series of chemotherapy treatments of taxol, taxotere and carboplatin.  While going through the physical recovery of surgery and experiencing chemotherapy she realized that something had to be done to help women become more aware of what is going on in their bodies and to get them to understand that ignoring ongoing signs of ovarian cancer symptoms is a deadly choice. Today she is in remission and spreading the word.

The evening includes heavy hors d’oeuvres, an array of non-alcoholic beverages, a Signature cocktail, a selection of wine and Goose Island beer.

A limited number of VIP tickets are available online for $150/person.  VIP tickets include a 5:00 p.m. early entrance for a private reception and meet-and-greet with celebrity spokesperson, Regina Taylor, star of the TV hit syndicated series The Unit, and playwright of the upcoming stage production, The Trinity River Plays.  The Trinity River Plays are three one-act plays about relationships, one of which is based on her relationship with her mother while she was on her journey with ovarian cancer.
