Sept. 2, 2010 - PRLog -- San Jose, Calif., September 2, 2010 -- The Rules Fest Association announced Rules Fest 2010 today, http://rulesfest.org/html/home.html, an international conference on reasoning technologies for software developers, engineers, programmers, and architects who are engaged in solving IT problems that involve complex decision making, pattern matching, and reasoning. The conference will be held October 11-14 at the Dolce Hayes Mansion Resort in San Jose, CA.

Rules Fest 2010 expects to draw participants from the technology-rich Silicon Valley, as well as from Europe and the Pacific Rim, especially Japan. The conference is specifically designed for software professionals who:

•   Are tasked with implementing application software that needs to emulate human reasoning in some domain,
•   Are inventors of enabling technologies (e.g., rule engines, logical reasoners, algorithms, etc.), or who
•   Manage such people and projects.

The conference consists of a single track of seventeen peer-reviewed presentations by leading developers, inventors, and IT executives from around the world and from many domains in both industry and academia. The event will also provide numerous break-out and poster sessions, and several hands-on programming boot camps to boost connections and skills. http://rulesfest.org/html/abstracts.html

The keynote address will be given by Professor John Laird, the John L. Tishman Professor of Engineering at the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at the University of Michigan. Professor Laird is a co-inventor of symbolic cognitive architecture, known as Soar. Soar is widely used by artificial intelligence (AI) researchers to model different aspects of human behavior. Professor Laird will discuss the roots of AI, his perceptions of today’s technology—particularly production rule systems—where it’s going, and insight into the surprising twists it may take along the way.

“One could attend a dozen specialty conferences around the world, pick and choose from their content, and still not get the density of practical and immediately useful information and knowledge about modern reasoning technologies that attendees will receive at Rules Fest", says Jason Morris, Rules Fest 2010 Chairman.

Reasoning, inferencing, and pattern matching are at the heart of many solutions to modern, complex computing problems. An example familiar to many business people would be the use of business rules and a business rules engine to process complex transactions, such as in banking and insurance. Rule engines are also used to power a branch of artificial intelligence applications known as rule-based expert systems.  All of these applications and many more are represented by the speakers at Rules Fest. Anyone who utilizes, innovates, or manages such technology is encouraged to participate.

The fee for the conference is $399, with an early bird discount of $50 available through September 15. RulesFest 2010 offers discounts for groups and students. A conference package offering four nights and three days at the historic Dolce Hayes Mansion Resort, including a boot camp of choice, continental breakfast and lunch each day, and a discount off from the Rules Fest 2011 conference is available for $999, a substantial discount off from the full price of $1224.

The conference offers multiple levels of sponsorships for the companies that wish to reach IT decision-makers from Fortune 500 companies.

Registration is online at http://rulesfest.org/html/registration.html.
