By: City and County of Swansea A series of workshops to improve and learn new researching skills is being made available at the West Glamorgan Archives in the city's Civic Centre over the next few months. Tips on interpreting old maps, photographs and handwriting are among the workshops that will take place. The workshops are aimed at beginners and people who already use the archives service. Archives Manager Kim Collis said: "These workshops are great for beginners as well as the more experienced researcher. "The range of workshops available means that there are so many different techniques and skills to learn in researching areas like family and local history" The first of five workshops will offer a basic introduction to archives and takes place on Monday September 13. The other workshops are as follows: • Monday September 20: How to look after your own archives. • Monday October 11: How to interpret old maps. • Monday October 25: How to interpret old photographs. • Monday November 15: How to read old handwriting.
