french 950 silver soap box circa 1880
PRLog (Press Release) -
Aug. 31, 2010 - This is an unusual French Aesthetic style late 19th Century 1st Standard Silver (950/1000) Traveling Soap Box. Judging by the hand hammered style, the box would be contemporary to Aesthetic pieces made by Tiffany & Co., circa 1875. Perhaps this French silversmith was influenced by Tiffany’s exhibit at the 1878 Paris Exposition, where mixed metals and Japanese influenced silver works of art were displayed. The box is hallmarked with the French 1st standard silver mark and maker’s mark on each side of the hinge. The box is in excellent condition with its original patina. It measures 3 3/8 Inches X 2 1/2 Inches. Weight: 4.25 Troy Ounces. The price is a very affordable $395.
