Aug. 31, 2010 - PRLog -- Pasadena City College (PCC) is sponsoring the “Building the Board You’ve Always Wanted” seminar with veteran trainer and business coach, Rodney D. Walker of Walker & Associates on Saturday, October 2, 2010 from 9 a.m. – 12 noon.  The seminar is back by popular demand and is helping to empower board members, executive directors, and nonprofit consultants with valuable information to help organization strengthen their capacity.  Walker has been conducting his educational trainings and workshops at PCC since 2006 and continues to receive rave reviews from his participants.

Nonprofit Executive, Katherine Nolan of the Opera A La Carte decided to do things differently by attending Walker’s workshop at PCC to increase her knowledge and her organization’s capacity.  She says, “I've taken his grant writing and board development classes and came away loaded with useful information. Walker and Associates can help save time, streamline processes, and takes the mystery out of all these complex processes. He's made me feel empowered, confident and fully capable of taking on this strange new world.”  Other students have echoed similar comments.

“He's accessible, knowledgeable and just plain fun to be around. A passionate teacher, he offers much value to his students and clients and has energy to burn,” says Diane Tegarden , of FireWalker Publications.  The days are gone when nonprofit board members simply scramble around trying to figure out how and what they should be doing.  “No board member is born with a nonprofit board of director’s gene.  Board members must be trained to understand their unique roles and responsibilities in governing and fundraising for their agency and this training helps board members do this,” says Walker.

He believes this is precisely what Peter F. Drucker meant when he said, “To wait until the crisis hits is already abdication. One has to make the organization capable of anticipating the storm, weathering it, and in fact being ahead of it. That is called innovation, constant renewal.”  Walker has been helping board members and executives in his workshops and one-on-one coaching sessions, to slow down long enough to reflect on ways and opportunities that they can positively exploit for their organization’s advantage.
