Aug. 30, 2010 - PRLog -- Hotel Galvez & Spa, a Wyndham Grand® Hotel, is now extending its ghost tour, typically reserved for guests, to the public as part of a dinner package on Thursdays. Beginning on Thursday, Oct. 7 and continuing through Thursday, Oct, 28, guests can enjoy a one-hour ghost tour of the historic hotel followed by dinner.

On each tour, Hotel Galvez concierge Jackie Hasan will guide participants through the ghostly past of the hotel while using an electromagnetic field detector and infrared thermometer to conduct a paranormal investigation.

Priced at $35 per person, the public ghost tour is only available as part of the dinner package. The tour begins at 6 p.m. followed by three-course dinner at 7 p.m. in Bernardo’s Restaurant, located on-site at Hotel Galvez. Advance pre-paid reservations are required. The first course of dinner is Bernardo’s House Salad with tender greens, cucumber, carrot and grape tomatoes finished with Bernardo’s Signature Balsamic Dressing. Guests have the choice of Galvez Pasta, penne pasta tossed with Cajun cream, grilled chicken, shrimp, and Andouille sausage and mushrooms; or Grilled Mango Chicken, chicken breast topped with mango BBQ and goat cheese. Entrees are served with rice pilaf and grilled vegetables. Those craving fresh Gulf seafood, can order Blackened Redfish served with chardonnay shrimp sauce, cheddar grits and grilled vegetables. Dessert is New York Style Cheesecake with raspberry sauce, whipped cream and fresh fruit garnish.

Guests should contact the restaurant directly at 409-765-7721 to make a tour/dinner reservation. For more information on Bernardo’s visit the website at www.BernardosAtHotelGalvez.com. Public tours will only be offered as part of the dinner package.

“Over the years, guests have reported seeing or feeling a presence in some parts of the hotel, primarily on the fifth floor,” says Hasan. “The ghost tour and dinner package at Hotel Galvez seeks to explore eerie encounters while providing participants with a great, entertaining experience.”

Hotel staff has often reported odd occurrences throughout the hotel, such as candles blowing out on their own and dishes breaking with no one around. The hotel is also known for the legend of its “ghost bride” on the fifth floor. This October, the hotel will be included on an episode entitled “The Ghost of Sister Katherine” on Travel Channel’s Ghost Stories. Last year, Hotel Galvez was featured on The Discovery Channel’s Ghost Lab.

The Hotel Galvez, A Wyndham Grand® Hotel and a National Trust Historic Hotel of America, remains the only historic beachfront hotel in Galveston. The Hotel Galvez, rated four diamonds by AAA, is owned by Galveston preservationists George Mitchell and is part of Mitchell Historic Properties.
