Aug. 30, 2010 - PRLog -- SYRACUSE, N.Y.—Andrew Van Ostrand, vice president of policy and research at the Health Industry Distributors Association, will give a luncheon keynote address at MEDTECH 2010 on the changing medical market as legislators implement new healthcare reform measures.

MEDTECH 2010, the premier bioscience and medical technology leadership conference on Oct. 4, is expected to draw more than 200 attendees from across Upstate New York. Van Ostrand’s plenary address will provide a distinctive point of view for conference participants.

“As someone who spends more than half of my time lobbying on Capitol Hill—and has been working in the healthcare field for more than a decade—I am excited to share my unique perspective on the potential impacts of healthcare reform as well as an environmental scan of what the regulatory process will mean for the healthcare channel moving forward,” says Van Ostrand.

HIDA, the trade association representing medical products distributors, focuses on the four main areas of advocacy, education and training, industry research, and events and networking to advance the medical distribution industry. Van Ostrand joined HIDA in 2006. In the position of vice president for policy and research, he is responsible for leading and managing the government affairs, advocacy, communications and research aspects of the association.

As a registered federal lobbyist, Van Ostrand leads all of HIDA's advocacy and external communications initiatives, including its Business Intelligence Service that provides member companies with industry trend and forecasting data to better inform their business decisions.

“Andrew’s vast range of knowledge from policy to the medical field, gives him insight into healthcare reform and how it affects not only patients and companies in the capacity of providing for their employees, but also medical suppliers as an industry,” says Heather Erickson, president of MedTech. “His expertise will provide attendees with a fresh perspective on this controversial and challenging topic.

MEDTECH 2010 will be held on Monday, Oct. 4 at The Lodge in Skaneateles Falls, N.Y. Speakers from across the bioscience and medical technology industry, including Van Ostrand will address business-critical matters through a five-track program focused on global market opportunities, healthcare innovation, manufacturing and operations, regulatory compliance and business development.

In addition, MEDTECH 2010 will include a Tech Showcase exploring the latest products, cutting-edge prototypes and leading industry research. The showcase provides an opportunity for Bio/Med companies to share emerging technologies, resources, products and current programs with attendees from across Upstate New York. Those interested in showcasing must apply by September 10.
