Wendy Nichol is well known in Tulsa, Oklahoma as the singer-songwriter that she is. From soloing as an opener for hardcore bands to packing out bars with a full band her genre escapes being limited to one. She has been pegged anywhere from folk/pop to indie to acoustic/soul/ rock but either way indie circuits around town have welcomed her. Wendy isn’t just seen on stage, you can find her talked about in the Tulsa World. Highlights of specific gigs she’s played and their glorious crowds as well as articles dedicated to her album release have been published on several occasions over the years. You can even find her music featured in the award winning “Quentin Tarantino-esk” indie film “Jesus Fish.”( http://www.myspace.com/jesusfishmovie)

Although she began singing in high school, Wendy had long desired to put her poetry to music.
It was that desire that drove her to a classical guitar class at a local community college. After just a few months, she played her first coffee house gig at the Gypsy Coffee House in downtown Tulsa.

Her CD, “Steppin’ Up” was released in March of 2007. From that album the single “I Just Do” is being highlighted. You might think it’s a classic break-up story but in this song Wendy finds that her peace in life is not something that should be controlled by life’s circumstances or those around her and that in essence a “broken relationship” doesn’t have to mean a “broken Wendy.”

Wendy is constantly adding new songs to her repertoire. “21 Tattoos,” a new single, is a rousing addition we look forward to hearing. The interesting trigger for this song was a girl her old drummer was dating that had 21 tattoos. Wendy wondered how cool it would be if all her tattoos had meaning behind them and mused how the difference between something being “good” and something being “great” is the meaning or purpose behind that something.

She finds much of her musical influence from those that surround her rather than other musicians. The beauty of life and the tragedy that comes with it both move and inspire her lyrics as well push her musical skill. She has intricately portrayed life experiences, personal triumphs and candid emotion through dark times throughout her music. Sitting down to listen to her album or live performance is more than ear candy but an experience in and of itself.

Wendy has recently come back from a break and she now has a new array of topics to write about, including motherhood. On August 23, 2010 she was featured on Local Flavors, a radio show of Roger State University. She gave an intimate and entertaining interview with, Tulsa music scene leader and host Davit Sauders, as well as played 11 of her songs live on the air. Her first show back was on August 27th, 2010 on the river in Tulsa. There wasn’t an empty chair in the newly renovated Rhythm on the River outdoor music plaza.
