SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, (August 5, 2010)—Surgeworks, a Salt Lake City-based application developer and graphical interaction design firm, has released a new app based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The Compendium app features a summary of principles, often in a question-and-answer format, that address the Church’s teachings and beliefs.

The Compendium app draws from the text of the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church as available in English on the Vatican’s website, Formulas of Catholic Doctrine, Scriptures, Church Fathers, and the Church’s Magisterium. The app is optimized for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad mobile devices. It features full text search, favorites tagging, and content sharing via email or Facebook.
“The Compendium app is a flexible resource that enhances the faith journeys of all believers. It doesn’t adhere to any single methodology for teaching catechism and can be integrated into a variety of learning environments including one’s own personal path to understanding,” says Dane Falkner, Surgeworks’ CEO.

The “Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church” app is the newest in a series of offerings devoted to Catholic prayer and religious devotion. Surgeworks has also released:
“Medjugorje” app offering the messages of the Blessed Virgin Mary as revealed to visitors to Medjugorje, a small village in Bosnia-Herzegovina
“Prayer” app that includes all 24 Official Common Prayers as listed in the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church
“Divine Office” app, an audio and text version of the Liturgy of the Hours

Three shorter versions of the Liturgy of the Hours for “Morning Prayer” (Lauds), “Evening Prayer” (Vespers), and “Night Prayer” (Compline) are also part of the prayer suite.

The “Compendium” app is available in the App Store. For more info, visit http://www.divine-office.com/compendium/
