The award-winning children’s eco-music group, the Banana Slug String Band gets the kids hoppin’ and dancin’ at the 53rd Annual Monterey Jazz Festival – as featured artists of the Family Day, Sunday, Sept. 19! Two Slugs’ concerts take place on the Coffee House Gallery stage at 2:00 & 3:30 p.m.

Family Day at the Jazz Fest features an Instrument Petting Zoo for wee ones to try out their chops on real instruments (yes, including percussion!); a Jazzy Jump House; and performances by some of the country’s best young jazz musicians. The Slugs are delighted to share the billing on this day with Le Boeuf Brothers. Adult All-Day passes cost $45. Family discounts are available, and kids under two years attend free.

The Banana Slugs are a foursome of musicians and educators from the Santa Cruz area who entertain and educate kids of all ages about caring this green Earth. The lively shows include music, theater, puppetry and audience participation. Slug songs feature vocals, guitar, banjo, mandolin, bass, harmonica and percussion.

The band’s musicianship is as strong as is its message. The band has performed at hundreds of venues across the U.S. including the Montalvo Arts Center and the New Orleans Jazz Festival. Their many awards include AFIM’s (Association for Independent Music) Indie Award for Best Children’s Recording and a NAPPA (National Parenting Publications Awards) Gold Award.
