German software manufacturer combit has entered the freeware market by releasing the Free Edition of development component List & Label. The fully functional reporting tool offers almost the complete range of features from the Standard Edition worth 700 US$. The Free Edition is now available for download. With the new edition, combit intends to reach a broader audience of developers in the English-speaking world.
"So far List & Label has been integrated primarily into professional applications, such as business solutions or in the medical sector”, explains managing director Christiane Koerdel. “As a Made-in-Germany reporting component, it has enjoyed a good reputation since 1992 and is still worth its price. But offering the Free Edition will open up a whole new market for development projects at start-up businesses or one-man shows that often hesitate to invest in high-end components.”
The Free Edition of report generator List & Label integrates quickly and supports a large number of programming languages. In contrast to the other editions, it does not benefit from the unlimited run time of the List & Label Designer, and a watermark appears on each printout and export file. However, the end user can acquire an unlock code for only EUR 29 / US$ 36.88 (exchange rate from 08/26/2010) to remove the watermark and to access the Report Designer to enhance reports by adding a company logo or letter head and so on. The developer can upgrade to a full List & Label edition at any time.
