WESTLAKE VILLAGE, CALIF.--Students entering 9 through 12 grades are invited to attend a free September 9 Triunfo YMCA Youth & Government information barbeque at Deerhill Park (6700 Doubletree Rd.) in Oak Park. Youth & Government is a YMCA hands-on program that brings together teenagers from around the state to learn about the inner workings of government. The free barbeque is from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Last year, over 100 delegates from the Triunfo YMCA took part in Youth & Government's annual conference in Sacramento, making it the largest delegation at the conference of more than 2,500 high schoolers from around the state. "Several of our delegates were singled out for their outstanding leadership abilities," says Jenna Grossman, Triunfo YMCA program director.
"Youth & Government is an excellent opportunity for high schoolers to interact with others of their age from outside their own circle of friends and outside the community," says Grossman, Triunfo YMCA. "The program challenges students to think about how their government works and how legislative actions can affect people's lives."
The Triunfo YMCA Youth & Government program accepts teens from Westlake Village, Agoura Hills and Oak Park. The delegation meets Thursdays from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. beginning September 16 Sumac Elementary School (6050 Calmfield Ave, Agoura Hills).
