Interior Designer B.R Gandhi's opinion on how to achieve effective interiors

It is very essential for you to understand that your home is for living and that aesthetic aside the major aim should be comfort, convenience and specific living needs.  

B.R Gandhi further emphasized on the following:
1)   Foreground : Flooring is the only component of the foreground a well designed and planned flooring with good material will become a good starting point of an interior. Without use of expensive material a good foreground can be created e.g. ordinary marble with dark color marble border or Mirror finish or ceramics tile with contrast color tile inserts which could be square or triangle (fig 1).    
2)   Backdrop or background: Without a proper background a interior cannot be complete and the major role players are walls, windows and curtains.
A fine finished wall with soft colors and few paintings or pictures can make one feel homely. See to it that frames fixed on the wall are the same scale of the wall size and the colors in the picture quit close to the background color family. Avoid picture light as it might make the wall more dramatic and give it an art gallery looks.
Door and windows should be natural color as through which we are going enjoy outside nature, hence wood frame window would be an ideal choice.

There is no other single ingredient, which gives more finish to a room then draperies or curtains and when it comes to curtaining your windows there are no hard and fast rules, the same curtain helps to enlace a view or can shut out an unattractive sight.
Lighting: we use our eyes much more than nature intended us to do. Our day begins at dawn and it dose not end at dusk. But with proper lighting we use our eyes round the clock.
   In interior every room needs general illumination as well as specific lighting for different type of activities e.g. studding or readying while sleeping etc A proper care taken in the beginning can save sizeable recurring cost and energy.
General: Using plants, flowers, sculptures and material in their natural state gives a marvelous quality of naturalness. All colors are good and depends on how you use the same, bold and bright colors cab be used in less proportions to get best out of it. Convenience is also an important factor adequate and well planned storage can save you time and energy.
