Latino Democrats Urge Yes Vote On Ca Sb 797 - Protect California’s Children

We urge all Californians to call upon Senators Correa, Price & Negrete McLeod, and remind them that when the choice is children’s health versus the chemical industry – the only logical choice is to protect our children and to vote YES ON SB 797.

Aug. 26, 2010 - PRLog -- LATINO DEMOCRATS URGE YES VOTE ON CA SB 797 – PROTECT CALIFORNIA’S CHILDREN

Los Angeles, CA - August 25, 2010

The Latino Democrats of Los Angeles County call upon CA State Senators Lou Correa, Curren Price and Gloria Negrete McLeod to stand with California children and communities of color: VOTE YES ON SB 797.

SB 797 is a bill to ban the chemical bisphenol A (BPA) in products for children 3 years and younger.  BPA has been proven to be a toxic hazard to the health of children.  Chemical industry lobbyists have tried to use the communities of color and the poor in reprehensible ads against this important bill - trying to insinuate a loss of food options for California’s WIC participants.  Yet even California’s WIC director has declared that California moms prefer BPA free options when given a choice.

There are many options available to the chemical and packaging industries.  Many companies now manufacture BPA-free products.  This important vote will be an opportunity to stand by children, and communities of color, and provide our kids with safe food packaging - or to stand with chemical industry lobbyists.  BPA is frequently present in packaging sold in communities of color, and the poor often have no BPA-free options.  This legislation will compel packaging companies to provide the same BPA-free packaging sold in upscale products.  We wouldn’t allow toxic chemicals in our children’s water – we shouldn’t allow them in baby bottles, sippy cups and formula packaging.

We know that Senators Correa, Negrete McLeod and Correa have always been champions for the safety of California’s kids and our communities of color.  We are confident that when the final vote is taken, they will choose the health of our children above the lobbying efforts of the toxic chemical industry.

We urge all Californians to call upon Senators Lou Correa, Curren D. Price and Gloria Negrete McLeod and remind them that when the choice is children’s health versus the chemical industry – the only logical choice is to protect our children and to vote YES ON SB 797.

Please call the State Senators: CA Sen Gloria Negrete McLeod 916-651-4032 // CA Sen Curren D. Price 916-651-4026 // CA Sen Lou Correa (916) 651-4034.
