Excluding asset impairment and other charges, net, the Company reported earnings per diluted share of $0.85 for the second quarter of 2010, compared with earnings per diluted share of $1.11 in the second quarter of 2009. Asset impairment and other charges, net totaled $31.5 million, or $0.51 per diluted share, for the second quarter of 2010, primarily as a result of exit activities in South Africa and Brazil, and flood damage to the Company's Guatemala banana production operation. Results for the second quarter of 2009 exclude asset impairment and other charges, net totaling $18.2 million, or $0.29 per diluted share.
