Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis and Education Receives 2010 USTA Outstanding Facility Award

Philadelphia nonprofit only large tennis facility to receive award in Northeast corridor.

Aug. 25, 2010 - PRLog -- PHILADELPHIA, PA, August 25, 2010 – Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis and Education (AAYTE), 4842 Ridge Ave. in the East Falls section, was named by the United States Tennis Association (USTA) as a recipient of the 2010 USTA Outstanding Facility Award. One of only seven large tennis venues in the United States to be honored, AAYTE was the only facility of its type in the country’s Northeast Region and the only one in the USTA’s Middle States Section to be recognized.

“The USTA’s Outstanding Facility Award Program was established to stimulate high standards in tennis facilities and to recognize those facilities whose efforts to make such a positive statement about the vitality of the game,” said Peggy Beard, Chairman, USTA Technical Committee.

“This recognition by the USTA is extremely important to Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis and Education, and validates the dedicated work and long hours that our young people, tennis professionals and volunteers contribute to the success of our programs,” said Kenny Holdsman, AAYTE president. “An award of this importance provides us with the impetus to accelerate our various programs that are designed to prepare young people not just for individual success as students and athletes, but also as active citizens in an increasingly diverse and complex society.”

The award will be presented to Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis and Education on Sunday,
September 5 at the USTA’s Semi-Annual Meeting at the Grand Hyatt New York.

Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis and Education (www.ashetennis.org) is a national model for innovative youth tennis, leadership development and educational enrichment programs. Providing new opportunities to an at-risk and diverse population, AAYTE delivers first-class tennis instruction, fitness, equipment, tutoring, and life skills to young people ages 4 to 18, many of whom come from underserved communities. The Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis and Education Center is dedicated to serve young people, the only center of its type in the country. In addition to tennis and learning programs at the 16-court Center, programs are held in schools and recreation centers in Philadelphia, Ardmore and Camden, NJ. AAYTE corporate sponsors include, but are not limited to, the Comcast Family of Companies, PECO, PNC and PRWT. Support also comes from various foundations, government agencies and individuals.
