Geocaching for Treasure in Hawaii
Geocaching is required to locate a Hawaiian war club hidden somewhere on the Big Island of Hawaii, with a $5,000 prize to the finder. The fun of the hunt is that the clues are hidden not only in the caches, but clues to the prize are to be found in a just released mystery novel entitled “Captain Cooked” by S.P. Grogan. Visit:
Captain Cooked weaves a plot of geocaching into the mystery surrounding the death of a beloved Hawaiian singer, and more so, Captain Cooked is a foodie travelogue of the Big Island including recipes from the top chefs and restaurants.
Three cache locations can be reviewed at www.geocaching.com under Captain Cooked, while the remaining clues are in the book disguised as ‘waypoints’
As Wikipedia describes the sport, “Geocaching is an outdoor activity in which the participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver or other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers, called "geocaches" or "caches", anywhere in the world. A typical cache is a small waterproof container containing a logbook. Larger containers such as plastic storage containers (tupperware or similar) or ammo boxes can also contain items for trading, usually toys or trinkets of little value. Geocaching is most often described as a "game of high-tech hide and seek," sharing many aspects with benchmarking, trigpointing, orienteering, treasure-hunting, Letterboxing, and waymarking.”
For those who can’t immediately fly to Hawaii and start geocaching for the $5,000 war club, smaller contests will be held based on the Captain Cooked story, starting at the end of September, 2010.
