Boca Raton, Fla., - August 24, 2010 – Bluegreen Corporation (NYSE: BXG), a leading provider of Colorful Places to Live and Play, today announced its active roll in utilizing local businesses and environmental conservation to complete renovation of Bluegreen’s timeshare resort, Shenandoah Crossing in Gordonsville, Virginia. The Shenandoah Crossing resort is a popular vacation destination for Bluegreen timeshare owners and is located in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley.
Bluegreen utilized locally harvested and milled lumber to complete their Wilderness Traveler project, inclusive of their new RV Neighborhood at the Shenandoah Crossing resort as well as the most recent renovation of the resort’s on-site restaurant Lake Izac’s Tavern. With thousands of acres of area pine plantations and the availability of hardwoods as a result of other developments, Bluegreen was able to use these resources effectively, resulting in the elimination of long-distance shipping and warehousing, while leaving pristine forests untouched.
“The renovation at our Shenandoah Crossing resort was a complete success,” says Dave Pontius, President and CEO of Bluegreen Corporation. “Due to our ability to support local milling businesses, we not only helped to provide the surrounding areas with an economic boost, but we also contributed to our environmental conservation initiative.”
Bluegreen integrated materials that are typically wasted during the milling process into their project. This included use of barked slabs or slag, as well as knotty and misshaped logs that are usually burned after the milling process. These products were used to design the RV Neighborhood fencing and summer kitchen trellises, deck aprons, fireplace mantels, specialized trims and more.
Bluegreen also helped a local farmer about 12 miles from the Shenandoah Crossing resort. The farmer cleared 20 acres of land to create a pasture and allowed Bluegreen to use the discarded mature trees in their project. This rescued lumber was used for street signs, light poles and fence posts. It was also milled into boards for use in the interior designs. At the time of completion, the project utilized indigenous materials in the construction of an outdoor amphitheatre, pool pavilion, tree house and trail bridges at this resort.
