The Most Stolen Cars of 2010...and Beyond

Luxury SUVs and high-performance cars are stolen more often than any other kind of vehicle. Specifically, the Cadillac Escalade tops the list of most frequently stolen vehicles.

Aug. 24, 2010 - PRLog -- Did you know that luxury SUVs are stolen more often than any other type of vehicle in the United States? That's right. In fact the Cadillac Escalade, and specifically the 2007 to 2009 edition, has the highest theft rate of any car or truck in the US. This does not necessarily mean that more Escalades are stolen than say, Toyota Camrys, but there are more of these vehicles stolen as compared to how many have been sold and are out there driving around. For example, about 1.1% of insured escalates were stolen, whereas the American average is only 0.2%.

Hummer models and other luxury sport-utility vehicles also top the list. Experts say that today's thieves are after chrome wheels and horsepower, and that's why they target these vehicles. Hemi Chargers are another vehicle that tops the list.  This is also tough for the drivers of these vehicles not just because of the high theft rate, but because the claim of value loss is often nearly $40,000. That's many times the average American vehicle is worth.

Another classification of vehicle thats get stolen at a high rate are work trucks, probably due to the value of the tools and machinery they haul around on a regular basis.  The Chevy Silverado and Ford F250 are both on the list of most frequently stolen vehicles.

The good news is that overall vehicle theft rates are down in insurance payments per claim have gone up.  The next time you visit your car dealership (http://www.buyherenpayhere.com/car-lots/), you might want to keep this list of vehicles in mind.
