Aug. 24, 2010 - PRLog -- Veteran career coach’s new book, “Changing Careers in a Changing World,” provides a step-by-step guide for analyzing your unique strengths, values and needs to find the career that’s right for you.

DALLAS---Whether an employee just received a pink slip from a job worked for decades, has bounced from employer to employer more times than a ping-pong ball after multiple layoffs or just dreads Monday mornings and the thought of going to the office again, there’s hope for finding a career that offers purpose, job security and joy.

Veteran career coach Carrell Chadwell of Crestview, Fla., and Dallas, who has helped thousands of disgruntled workers find more fulfilling careers, recently published her guide, “Changing Careers in a Changing World,” to help job seekers at every stage in the employment cycle fulfill themselves by finding work they truly love.

“Most people’s career decisions are pretty much hit or miss,” said Chadwell, a psychologist who retired recently after more than 30 years of career counseling and assessment. “They have a general idea of what they want to do, what’s expected of them and what they expect of themselves; then, they settle for what’s available.

“Sometimes that works out fine and leads them to satisfying careers. But, too often, workers never find the careers that truly fit them.”

For those struggling to find their real paths to career satisfaction, Chadwell said it’s important to analyze past jobs and identify the factors they liked and disliked in each position, and begin building lists of things they want and need from their new careers. Also, career searchers should devise lists of questions they can ask or research about prospective opportunities to determine whether the openings will offer those needs.

“Changing Careers in a Changing World,” also offers tips on:
•   The three factors that will determine if a job is a good fit
•   How to adapt resume and interview tactics to reposition for a change of careers
•   What older workers must do to compete in today’s job market

“Even in today’s difficult economic times, the chances of finding a rewarding new career are very good if you know clearly what you are looking for and know the strategies for finding the jobs that fit you,” Chadwell said. “It’s important to be flexible and open up your mind to new possibilities. Be prepared for change and take a positive view.

“If you take the right steps, your future could be brighter than you imagine.”
