By: Wood Green Animal Shelters As part of Wood Green’s £3.6 million planned development at the Godmanchester site to build five new isolation kennels, a new puppy block and a state-of-the- Therefore the Charity is seeking to re-home at least 10 ferrets by the end of October in order for the demolition to take place. Deputy head of small animal welfare, Marie Channer said: “Many people think ferrets are smelly and they bite. What they don’t realise is what wonderful pets ferrets make. As a result we are struggling to find new homes for the 20 ferrets in our care. “It is important that we find loving homes for as many ferrets as we can in time for the demolition of one of the ferret aviaries in late October. We will then have to limit the number of ferrets we take in, until our new ferret aviaries are built. “Many of the ferrets that come into us are strays or unwanted litters. “Ferrets are affectionate, gentle animals who love to be handled and are extremely domesticated. They tend to have intense animated play periods followed by hours of deep sleep. Ferrets like cosy bedding to sleep in, soft carpets on the floor and blankets to snooze on. They can live happily in pairs or as part of a group, providing they are neutered. “Ferrets need a home which is at least 3m long by 2m wide and 2m high.” Among the ferrets seeking new homes are 18-month-old Spencer and his two girlfriends Topez (4) and Pearl (4). Spencer, who has been at the Shelter for more than six months befriended his two girlfriends when they were found abandoned in a small container soon after his arrival. This group would be ideal for first time ferret owners as they love people. They enjoy going for walks on the lead and love playing with toys. The Godmanchester Shelter is also home to six baby sisters, Lilly, Cassie. Naomi, Katie, Emily and Effy who are looking for their forever home. Four-year-olds Frances and Frederick are a pair of albino brothers who have been at the Shelter for over a year. They love to play together and go for walks. End
