LAS VEGAS NIGHTLIFE, THE REBIRTH OF DJ CULTURE
Tough economic climate spurs talent driven line-ups at pools and nightclubs
If you want to hear the latest top 40 dance track at a nightclub in Las Vegas, you only need to wait about 10 minutes. This isn’t a town built on edginess, it’s a town built on global tourism, but the flood of new hotels, venues and nightclubs must now be edgy to stand out.
Not long ago, a new venue, hotel, or nightclub could debut and fill up simply because it was new. While Vegas is just getting out of the tourism doldrums, up 2% from last year, new venues and rooms are outpacing the recovery, up 6%. To compete, new venues can’t just be “new” anymore.
The Encore Hotel knew how to play their cards right; they didn’t just open their new mega pool with a splash, they cannon-balled into the scene, bringing in global house super-star Kaskade for a summer long residency. Their new nightclub Surrender, followed suit with a residency from popular hipster DJ Steve Aoki. Across the street, Hotel Aria has kept pace with Haze by booking remix artist and DJ, David Guetta while their pool party regularly brings in talent like Boyz Noize and Benny Benassi. And let’s not forget the rumored million dollar residency for DJ Vice who plays back to back sets at Tao and Lavo on Fridays and Saturdays.
Nobody knows the game of big name DJ talent better than the 9Group at the Palms Hotel. As an off-strip destination, this is a long time strategy born partially out of necessity. This year it seems to be paying off more than ever. Scratch DJ and mash up innovator Z-Trip holds the Friday residency at Rain Nightclub, Paul Oakenfold runs Saturday’s. Meanwhile, a continuous stream of edgy hip hop kicks off every Friday at the pool, and a schedule of concerts runs non-stop at the Pearl and outdoor mid-week performances.
The net effect of this new talent-heavy marketing strategy should be a better experience for the party people coming in from around the world. Better events, better DJs, better scene for all (at least until the economy comes back). And for those of you that don’t know trance from dub-step, don’t worry, your favorite Lady Gaga track is still welcome in Sin City too!
MetroWize is giving away the ultimate Vegas party weekend pass for four people. Two rooms, two nights and (4) all access passes on Friday and Saturday Oct 22-23rd. Enter for your chance to win here: http://www.metrowize.com/
