"Our facility includes more than 160,000 square feet of production space, so we consume a great deal of electricity. Offsetting most of this with a 280 kW solar system will lower our overall carbon footprint and keep operational costs down for years to come," said Stratton Yatron, CFO of Adelphi Kitchens & Cabinetry, Inc.
Solar energy systems offer affordable, low-maintenance and environmentally responsible solutions for companies that are looking for ways to incorporate sustainable best practices. A number of state and federal grant programs have been developed to accommodate the growing demand in businesses adopting renewable energy and harnessing natural resources as a concerted effort to preserve the environment.
By design, the solar electric system produces electricity during peak times. Adelphi receives credits for the energy produced at the peak rate, which reduces their electric bills by a higher percentage than it would by simply reducing its actual electricity usage. The 280 kW solar array should provide approximately 27% of Adelphi's annual energy needs.
For the solar roof installation, Adelphi partnered with Reading Electric Renewables and Borrego Solar Systems, Inc. Together they help Adelphi offset the cost of its solar roof by securing both Federal and State grants designed to assist businesses in funding solar energy systems, which is increasingly important as companies prepare for the upcoming increases in electric utility rates.
Adelphi's solar roof will have a significant environmental savings over a 30-year span. It will conserve the burning of 18,539 barrels of oil and reduce greenhouse gas emissions greatly. For example, avoiding Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions alone over 30 years is equivalent to 26,029,805 vehicle miles not traveled or planting 31,050 mature trees.
Adelphi's Solar Roof's Environmental Savings:
Here is the Reduction in Gas Emissions Adelphi will save (shown in pounds):
12,968,096 lbs. of Carbon Dioxide (CO2), a major contributor to global warming
4,619 lbs. of Sulfur Oxide (SO2), a primary component of acid rain
4,199 lbs. of Nitrogen Oxide (NO), a major contributor to smog and air-induced problems
