Aug. 23, 2010 - PRLog -- Children’s and Women’s Physicians of Westchester (CWPW) www.cwpw.org continues to expand its range of quality health care to families throughout the lower New York and Connecticut region with the addition of Eastchester Pediatric Medical Group to its network of health care offices. The Eastchester Pediatric Medical Group, located at 266 White Plains Road in Eastchester, provides general pediatric medicine to infants, children and adolescents.

Leonard Newman MD, President and CEO of CWPW, and Jose Boyer, MD, founder of Eastchester Pediatric Medical Group, made the announcement jointly. The addition of the Eastchester Group brings to 17 the number of CWPW offices throughout the Lower Hudson Valley and Connecticut. Eastchester Pediatric Medical Group has three staff physicians, as well as a nursing staff of four, and an administrative staff of two, including Dr. Boyer’s wife, Rita.

“We’ve been sending out patients to Westchester Medical Center for years, so it seemed to fall into place that we get together,” Dr. Boyer said of the newly established relationship with CWPW. Eastchester Pediatric Medical Group was established in 1988. Over the years Dr. Boyer has developed close professional ties with Dr. Newman and with Michael H. Gewitz, Vice President and Chief of Cardiology at CWPW.

“They’ve always said that they were interested in attracting more patients to CWPW and to Westchester Medical Center from the lower part of Westchester County,” Dr. Boyer says of Drs. Newman and Gewitz. “Since I’ve been sending patients to them for years, it just makes sense. You have to be faithful to your patients in the area.” This means ensuring that patients in need of a broad range of pediatric subspecialty care take advantage of the superior services provided by CWPW in the region, as opposed to traveling to New York or beyond for treatment.

Dr. Boyer points to Drs. Newman and Gewitz as spearheading the concept of consolidating the practices. “They’re the ones who developed the idea,” Dr. Boyer states. “They wanted to establish a medical office down here” in the southern part of Westchester County. “We need to keep our patients here in Westchester,” Dr. Boyer adds. “The only way to do that is to stress the great results that patients see” at CWPW and at Westchester Medical Center.

“The addition of Eastchester Pediatric Associates adds yet another dimension to the broad range of pediatric services offered through CWPW,” states Leonard Newman, MD, President of CWPW. “We strive to serve families throughout the region, and now with our affiliation with Eastchester Pediatric Medical Group, we are able to offer excellent pediatric health care to our young patients and their families in the important service area of Southern Westchester County.” As a Division of CWPW, Eastchester Pediatric Medical Group also formalizes its affiliation with Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.

Rosemary Calligaris, MD, feels the arrangement with CWPW will enhance the Eastchester Pediatric practice in a number of ways. “It will definitely complement the way in which we conduct medical care here,” she explains. “The backing of CWPW and the range of subspecialties they provided will be great for our patients.” Associated with the Eastchester practice since 2003, Dr. Calligaris says she is “very excited to see this relationship move forward.”

From the patients’ perspective, little will change at the Eastchester office, Dr. Calligaris says. “For the time being it will just be the three of us,” she says, referring to Dr. Boyer and Rajesh Bisnauth, the third pediatrician at the practice. “It will be status quo” and patients can expect the same high level of quality care they are accustomed to at Eastchester, she says.

According to Rajesh Bisnauth, MD, the arrangement with CWPW is a positive one for myriad reasons. “It’s something I’ve been pursuing for a long time,” Dr. Bisnauth says. Integrating management and consolidating the business end of the practice makes sense, he insists. “This sort of fell into our laps,” he adds. “Dr. Newman and Dr. Gewitz invited us over, and we discussed the evolution of the private practice.” It was logical, Dr. Bisnauth insists, for Eastchester to join with CWPW.

“As I started to learn more about CWPW, I found that it was tailor-made to where I wanted to be, and where our practice should be,” Dr. Bisnauth states. “Small practices, practically, just can’t survive,” so joining with a larger entity seemed wise. CWPW promises autonomy, he adds, something important to the smaller practice. “The nice thing is that for our patients, nothing will change.” The fact that Dr. Boyer’s son, Joseph Boyer, MD, a pediatric pulmonologist, is associated with CWPW, is another advantage to the arrangement, Dr. Bisnauth says. All told, he concludes, “It seems like a very good fit.”

Having joined with CWPW, Dr. Boyer is optimistic about the short-term and long-range prospects for the combined practices. “It’s a very beneficial arrangement,” Dr. Boyer states. “I expect it to work out very well.”

Eastchester Pediatric Medical Group will retain its name, Dr. Boyer explains; its Web site www.eastchesterpeds.com, will be soon be changed to reflect its new affiliation with CWPW.
