Aug. 23, 2010 - PRLog -- Three-dimensional (3-D) imaging is now available at the office of Joseph R. Nemeth, D.D.S. & Associates in Southfield, MI. Drs. Joseph Nemeth and Amar Katranji are among the first periodontists in Michigan to offer 3-D imaging, provided by the dental i-CAT® machine.

A 3-D image provides high resolution, volumetric images of critical anatomical areas. It allows the doctor to see the patient’s teeth as well as the supporting root, bone, and nerve structures. It is often faster, easier, and more cost-effective than regular CT scans.

The periodontal and dental implant specialists at Joseph R. Nemeth, D.D.S. & Associates find the 3-D image very useful for implant procedure planning because it provides predictable outcomes for surgical procedures. It gives them precise measurements of where the implant should be placed and it helps them determine which size and type of implant is best for the patient. It also indicates if the patient has sufficient and quality bone structure to support an implant.

The i-CAT® technology enables these doctors to perform rather complex surgeries. “We recently used 3-D imaging to perform an intricate surgery on a child. It helped us to determine the location of the patient’s impacted incisor and allowed us to remove it with minimal trauma,” Dr. Nemeth explained. “It also helps in situations where a molar is not functioning endodontically. The 3-D image will enable us to determine specifically which root is failing so we can take appropriate action in that area and often times, save the tooth,” he continued.

For over 25 years, Dr. Nemeth has been on the leading edge of patient care. He continues to incorporate new technology and techniques into his practice to ensure his patients receive state-of-the-art dental treatment.
