Aug. 22, 2010 - PRLog -- The Ordinary Forces Website (ordinaryforces.com) was launched in June 2010 and has enjoyed success in attracting a diverse group of visitors. The website provides veterans and their families a forum to post stories and pictures relating to their military service regardless of branch.  The site features accounts from veterans of World War II and through subsequent conflicts including our current heros serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.  James Toombs, a Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran created the site and dedicated it to a friend of his, Lieutenant Colonel Mike Young, who was killed just after they returned from a 2005 tour in Iraq.

The website now features the Hero Gallery where veterans and families have a straightforward way to post pictures along with a descriptive caption.  Toombs indicates “I understand that sending a story is both an emotional and time commitment. This will lighten the burden for both.” In contrast to submitted stories, the Hero Gallery does not yet separate pictures by service branch or conflict. Upon entering the Hero Gallery, the visitor is greeted with a splash of thumbnails that can be accessed to view the veteran’s full picture.

“We just added the Hero Gallery last week so we don’t have a huge number of pictures just yet.”

Toombs believes the Hero Gallery will help introduce visitors to the site and invite them post their stories. In addition to his “part-time” service in the National Guard, Toombs is a full-time physician with the Department of Veterans Affairs in St. Louis, Missouri.  “I interview veterans everyday and I am amazed by the stories they tell.  This is part of our national history and it needs to be recorded before it’s lost.” Through the ordinaryforces.com website and the newly added Hero Gallery, Toombs is hoping to do just that.

There is no fee or registration required to post on the website.
