Did you know Facebook is expected to make a major announcement tomorrow regarding a new location-sharing feature? Neither did we. That is until we got a Tweet from Saying it Social, a social media firm based in Towson.
Saying it Social was founded earlier this year by AK Stout, who became intrigued with Facebook while studying marketing in college. Ms. Stout was an early adapter of the social network, back in a time when it was only available to college students. Timing is everything.
After graduating, AK obtained her real estate license, and set about putting her marketing skills to work in an attempt to separate herself from the other gazillion agents in the area. Going back to her college days, she began using social media as a means to stay connected with her clients, past and present. By now other social media outlets were springing up, and AK says she tried most, if not all of them in an attempt to see how she could get her face and name known to as many people as possible.
Leaving real estate when the market took a downturn, AK started working as a franchise support specialist. About this time, she says, social media was beginning to "be seen as a huge marketing opportunity for businesses."
Through all the studying and hard work she had developed a methodology that was comprised of strategic site selection, posting frequency, and content development, to name just a few of her strategies. She began using these to help the franchise owners she dealt with get recognized. It worked so well that she founded Saying it Social at the beginning of this year.
The company works with franchisees and other small business owners to tailor a "Done for You" social media program that is both inexpensive and powerful. AK feels social media can put businesses and consumers on the same level through their interactions on various networks. This, she believes, can lead to a level of trust for the consumer unlike any we have previously seen. In less than three-quarters of a year, Saying it Social has assisted 30 clients in getting their brands seen and known using social networks.
AK Stout is not just another web wonder conjuring up a magic potion that will make all your marketing dreams come true. She is truly one of the most passionate people I have ever conversed with when it comes to describing her subject. It is what she knows, and she knows it very well.
AK will be participating in a student seminar at CCBC this semester aimed at defining the direction of social media in the future. She will also be giving two lectures next year on this subject. Needless to say, if you are a small business owner looking for an inexpensive way to market yourself, you should check out Saying it Social. Like we said at the top of this article, timing is everything.
