Unlike the name suggests, however, VGA2Ethernet is capable of capturing from many different video sources - not only VGA, but also DVI, HDMI, and composite video.
   VGA2Ethernet has many advantages over traditional frame grabbers or video capture devices. Firstly, it is able to capture extremely high resolutions (up to 1920x1600) while maintaining a capture rate of at least 30 frames per second. What this means is that even HD video can be captured at full resolution and speed. Furthermore, VGA2Ethernet, being originally designed for military, medical, and industrial applications,  captures 100% of the image in its original quality, something that cannot be said about other capture devices.    Since VGA2Ethernet digitized streams video over the LAN to the capture PC, the user must install drivers that would be able to identify VGA2Ethernet as being present on the network. Such drivers are available for free from Epiphan Systems' (manufacturer) website and are available for Windows, Mac OS, as well as Linux operating systems. Once the VGA2Ethernet is set up, the user can use the device with virtually any software program that supports an external video input, as the computer now sees the VGA2Ethernet as a high resolution webcam. This means that the image can be streamed using Windows Media Encoder or QuickTime, and recorded using software like VirtualDUB, VNC, or Adobe Premiere.
