August 20, 2010 - St. Charles, IL — Tasteful shopping in Chicago’s Grand Avenue Design District, a former industrial hub that has blossomed into a vintage, salvage and modernist-inspired furniture destination, will become even more exciting and worth a visit when State Street Salvage’s owners Kevin Hanley and Steve Peterson, along with Marian Kraus of Marian Kraus Photography, open doors to the public in August 2010.
The idea to combine the visionary talents of all three artists and to join forces was born out of the desire to provide shoppers and members of the interior design trade with a “one stop shop” destination, allowing them to find and procure very unique, functional and artistic furniture, fine art photography as well as home and garden accessories. In their own words: “By conveying the feeling, energy as well as spirit of our artistic visions and designs, our desire is to inspire our clients to transform their living and working spaces into meaningful and healing environments. Ultimately, however, we want to contribute to the greater good of all.”
The space is located in an airy, open, 15’ high ceiling 2,000 sq. ft. showroom at 2248 West Grand Avenue in Chicago, IL. It is situated amidst other well recognized designer showrooms such as Buckingham Interiors & Design, Sentimental Gardens, European Furniture Warehouse, Salvage One, Post 27, MCM Grand and UberModern. About State Street Salvage: Kevin Hanley initially spent 15 years working in the clothing business, gathering a wide array of expertise and experiences. He then joined his family’s antiques and interiors business, Les Tissus Colbert, and honed his varied business and design skills. Kevin’s constant drive and search for items that were creative, functional and unique, coupled with his extensive travels throughout Europe, led to the creation of State Street Salvage.
Steve Peterson has an extensive background in woodworking, which ranges from building custom furniture to restoring the most intricate antiques. His career started at the age of 12, which led him to become an artistic and accomplished woodworker and craftsman.
Through State Street Salvage, Steve and Kevin have been able to combine their talents of reinventing and repurposing unique and functional furniture for homes and to bring that to an otherwise boring marketplace. From side tables, wine racks and coffee tables to distinctive kitchen islands and serving pieces, lamps and chairs, State Street Salvage combines artistry and functionality in every piece they create.
