York Schools Score With Hatfields Football Giveaway

Aug. 26, 2010 - PRLog -- With the FIFA 2010 World Cup™ recently ending and the new Premier League season kicking off, local Hyundai dealers Hatfields is ensuring that local schools have the equipment in place to help develop the nation’s much-needed football stars of the future.

The dealership, located on York Business Park, and stocking a range of used and new Hyundai cars, has been delivering hundreds of footballs to grateful staff and pupils at schools across the region, with children of all ages eagerly waiting to try out the moves being displayed by their heroes in South Africa.

Hatfields York contacted the schools following a successful weekend of World Cup-related fun held at the showroom last month.  Visitors were able to exchange an old football, whatever the age and condition, for a brand new one, with the traded-in balls going to Africa as part of the SOS Africa scheme.  At the event, the York FA Girls’ Academy dazzled attendees with an exhibition of football skills.

“Watching the York FA Girls’ Academy enthusiastically demonstrate their footballing talents inspired us to contact local schools across the area,” commented Andy Maddock, Dealer Principal at Hatfields York.  “We wanted to help the physical education teachers in the community develop future football stars, and what better way to do this than by providing some vital equipment.”

The schools to have benefited from the initiative are: the Jospeh Rowntree School of Haxby Road, Manor CE School on Low Poppleton Lane, and Wigginton Primary on Westfield Lane.

Andrew Haigh, Head of Physical Education at the Joseph Rowntree School, said “Football, as you would expect, is an extremely popular sport among our pupils, even more so during a World Cup.  We are very grateful to Hatfields for the provision of these footballs which will allow us to set up two new school teams – a Girls’ under-13s and a Girls under-15s.”
